This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.
Access Statement for Down Ende House, Looe, Cornwall,
PL13 1QN

Down Ende guesthouse is situated in the beautiful south-east Cornish countryside, just a few miles from the charming fishing villages of Looe and Polperro.
We have 8 bedrooms with 1 accessible bedroom suitable for wheelchair users situated on the ground floor with step free access. Car parking within 5 meters.
Step free access is also available in the dining area. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The en-suite bathroom of the accessible bedroom has a level entry shower with handrails fitted throughout e.g. shower and toilet.
Being in the countryside we are just a 5 minute drive from Looe, the main attractions, shops, restaurants cafes and beech.

• The nearest main line railway station is at Liskeard, which is 12 miles away. There is also the Looe valley line, which runs from Liskeard on a regular basis. Taxis are available at the station.

• The nearest bus stop is 700m/746yds from Down Ende. There is no shelter or seating. The main road outside Down Ende has no path way.

Car Parking and Arrival
• There is parking on site.
• The car park surface is tarmac with gravel leading to the main entrance. The car park is well lit at night. There is 1 down steps leading to the main entrance.
• The main entrance door is manual, 760mm/30ins wide. A side door is also available 900mm/35.5ins wide, with a concrete ramp.

Main Entrance / Reception / Welcome Area
• Reception is on the ground floor.
• The floor surface throughout the lobby is carpet.
• The area is evenly and well lit with overhead lighting and wall lights.
• A magnifying glass, pen and pad of paper are available on request.
• There is a choice of seating in the bar/lounge area, which can be used as an alternative space for check-in.
• A familiarisation tour is available on request.

• We have 1 ground floor accessible bedroom. This room provide specific facilities for guests with disabilities, these include:
• The entry door are 900mm/35.5ins wide, light and easy to open.
• Furniture can be easily removed or rearranged in the room if requested.
• Twin or double beds are available. A sofa bed for use by a personal assistant/carer or friend/family member is available.
• The room there is a transfer space of at least 1200mm/47ins on one side of the beds.
• The height of the beds from the floor to the top of the mattress is 450mm/17.7ins. Blocks to raise the height of the bed are available on request.
• There is a 230mm/9ins space under the beds, allowing space for a hoist when on blocks.
• Rooms are bright and evenly lit. Overhead and wall lighting is used. There are also bedside and table lamps in each room. Additional reading lamps are available on request.
• The height of the wardrobe rails can be adjusted.

• These, and all other bedrooms in the hotel, offer the following: All bedroom doors are marked with raised numbers. Lighting as above, good colour contrast between the floor, walls and doors, short pile carpet, all bedding is non-feather, digital television with remote control, subtitles, and audio description facilities.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms and Toilets (en suite or Shared)
• The ground floor accessible bedroom has en-suite bathroom providing specific facilities for guests with disabilities, these include:
• Doors 900mm/35.5ins wide, easy to open.
• Level entry shower.
• The toilet height is 400mm/15.7ins.
• The wash basin height is 800mm/31.5ins, with clear space underneath.
• Grab rails, horizontal and vertical, are fitted around the shower.
• Horizontal and vertical grab rails are fitted either side of the toilet.
• Lever taps are fitted on the washbasin and bath.
• Well lit with overhead lights and a fluorescent light over mirror.
• Good colour contrast between the doors, floor, walls and towels.
• The flooring is non-slip tile.
• Seat raisers and shower seats are available where required.

Public Areas - Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors
• All public areas, halls, stairs, landings, are well lit using a combination of ceiling and wall lights. Corridors are slightly dimmer lit by ceiling lights. Floor covering is short pile carpet.

Public Areas - Lounges, Lobbies
• The lounge area is situated on the ground floor with ramp entry from the side entrance area. The room has a mixture of seating with sofas and soft chairs with and without arms as well as some stools, together with low coffee tables. Lighting is natural daylight and by night levels are controlled by dimmer switches, with overhead and wall lighting used as well as table lamps around the room. The flooring is short pile carpet in both the lounge and the lobby. Bar food and drink can be served in the lounge, just ask at the bar for menu details. The nearest toilets are in the gust bedrooms.

Restaurant/Dining Room, Bar & Bar area
• The restaurant and bar are situated on the ground floor with 1 step entry from the main entrance area. Entry to the bar is the same, but an alternative low gradient ramp is available at the side door
• Both the restaurant and bar have level access throughout. Tables in the restaurant are well spaced apart, a mixture of upright chairs with and without arms are available.
• The bar area has a mixture of sofas, soft chairs and upright chairs with high and low tables. Service is usually at the bar, but drinks and food can be served at the table on request.
• Lighting is natural daylight and by night levels are controlled by dimmer switches, with overhead and wall lighting used as well as table lamps around the room. Candles are lit on tables.
• The flooring is short pile carpet and wooden.
• We do our best to cater for any dietary requirements; please contact us in advance with any specific requests. Where possible all our food produce is locally sourced.
• The restaurant is table service for dinner. Breakfast is a part self-service buffet and waited; however, staff can assist on request.
• Large print menus are available. Specials of the day are presented by your server. All staff can assist by running through menus with you.
• Crockery is colour contrasted with the table where possible.
• The nearest toilets and accessible toilet are in your room

Grounds and Gardens
• We have 2 acres of grounds with a mixture of grass trees and shrubberies. We also have a patio area and small pond.
• Areas closest to Down Ende are flat at the front; at the rear the ground is undulating with gentle inclines.

Additional Information
• All of our staff receive regular training that includes disability awareness training.

• We have a set of evacuation procedures – should you require assistance someone will come to your room and help you with evacuation out of the building.

• The nearest General Hospital with an A&E unit and walk in NHS facility is 12 miles away. The nearest doctor’s surgery is 2 mile away. Please contact reception for further information.
• Free Wi-Fi Internet access is available in bedrooms and throughout Down Ende.
